Today we are going to talk about one of the dullest and most boring issues of the whole process. When you move to a new city there is always a point of illusion and a lot of emotion but, in fact, we never remember the bureaucratic paperwork.
—And with good reason! Because they’re a pain in the neck —exclaims Almudena.
—Right! They are —Paloma accepts.
—Even though they’re always more bearable if we arrive prepared.
—Like everything else in life.
—Exactly!

It’s very important to do some research as soon as possible to know what we’re dealing with and to have some documents ready.
—Yes! Depending on the country of origin and the reason why you’re moving, required paperwork will vary.
—The Spanish Consulate in your city would be a good starting point.
—And the removal company.
—Or, even, the airline.
—Which is essential if you bring pets.

Some procedures must be initiated at your home town and as soon as possible, for example, everything related to pets. However, for others, it’s necessary to start them once you are in Madrid, like register at the Town Hall.
—Actually, there are only 2 or 3 formalities required —reflects on Palo.
—Depending on one’s personal situation —clarified Almu.
—On the other hand, there are others that, although not obligatory, make your life easier.
—Correct! For example, everything related to the parking permit for residents.

The truth is that acknowledging the procedures you’ll need and when and where to face them makes a big difference. You plan it and there’s no surprises or last-minute rush.
—It looks like information is power.
—Power to save time and inconvenience, in this case.
—But you have to admit that doing these staff doesn’t have any charm.
—Well, in some cases it might help you to get to know the city.
—Oh yeah! And even socializing.

Of course you can always see the positive side of every situation. However, I’m sure it’ll be more rewarding to get to know Madrid from a different perspective, such as a visit to the Prado Museum or the Retiro Park. Or socializing by meeting locals in a bar.
—And the million-dollar question, how do we get this information?
—Saint Google.
—It can take hours off and make very little sense of it.
—Or in some websites specialized in expatriates.
—And the relocation companies.
