Let me guess.

You have no plans for tomorrow …

Yes! tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.

—Almu! Tomorrow is February 14th.
—Coherent! Today is Tuesday the 13th … As we say in Spanish “Martes 13, ni te cases ni te embarques” —answers Paloma.
—Yeah, it’s a strange coincidence, isn’t it? The day of bad luck followed by Valentine’s Day.
—Valentine’s Day! I’d forgotten.
—As every year.
—It is inevitable, if we miss the ads of Corte Inglés, we have no clue.

If you have just moved to Madrid, you are forgiven. With so much change, accomplished and yet to be realized, you have the perfect excuse.

Anyway, it’s a shame to miss the opportunity to celebrate.

—What are you going to do? Are you just going to stay home?
—I just had a brilliant idea —says Almudena.
—Another? —answers Paloma ironically.
—I’ll cook a romantic dinner at home.
—I’m going to book right now at … where?
—It’s a Wednesday, don’t worry, there will be a table available in every restaurant.

To be honest, in Madrid there is no great tradition of celebrating Valentine’s Day, even if advertising is determined to state the opposite. You’ll see offers in all media and social networks. And, of course, we all love to receive a gift and partying.

—I fancy a restaurant with views to the city skyline.
—I’ll think about the menu —says Almudena, puzzled over her idea.
—Or a romantic in a garden?
—And the shopping list.
—Or the famous fashionable one?
—Dessert! I forgot about that.
—What about our favorite of the season?
—And the drinks!

Finding a last-minute Valentine’s Day plan is closer than you can imagine. And it’s very easy!

There are hundreds of restaurants, all kinds of cuisine, atmosphere and budget. Apart from the international and reliable Trip Advisor, you can take a look at Guía del Ocio and, of course, ask us about our favorite places.

In case you prefer an intimate celebration at home, you can arrange a quick dinner by buying something special at El Corte Inglés (gourmet), Sánchez Romero, Mallorca or Embassy. In these places you will find everything in one place and you’ll find them all over Madrid.

—I’m thinking of doing something different.
—Like getting married in Vegas?
—Precisely, I just saw that in Hard Rock Cafe you can reserve a Las Vegas style “chapel”.
—And you’ll be dressed as Marilyn, of course!
—Perhaps. But honestly, it doesn’t suit me that much.

There are also extravagant, fun and imaginative plans. Most places offer a special event, just search Google Valentine’s Day in Madrid.

—Well, I was imagining something different though. Actually, more along my lines.
—Totally! I didn’t see you in a chapel in Vegas. What about a concert?
—Good idea! I’m in.
—Great! So you save yourself to realize all restaurants are completely booked.
—I got it! The Chinese New Year’s Concert in the Auditorium. What do you think?
—I love it. We end double-celebrating: Valentine’s Day and another New Year.

In case this 2018 Valentine Day, circumstances don’t allow you to celebrate it the way you would in your own city, take the opportunity to start a new tradition. Besides, we already know that it is only a commercial holiday and that Love with capital letters must be celebrated 365 days a year.
